Omega: GPS Integration Platform

Darrell W. Davis

Abstract: It has been said GPS will be the navigation system of choice in the next century; however GPS currently is in an embryo state. The constellation is not yet complete and the integrity of the system not yet defined. Omega navigation on the other hand, is the only worldwide, mature system providing robust navigation to land, sea, air, and scientific users. Utilizing proven Omega systems as a platform to establish GPS in a supplemental role provides the user a system capable of meter accuracy anywhere in the world. Trimble Navigation has taken advantage of this synergism and combined the two units for a navigation system with many years of capability. This paper will discuss this combined system and give operation highlights of it's performance.
