Loran-C Approaches

Leard Wylie

Abstract: Western Michigan Universities interest in -LORAN-C began about 1987 with the attendance of the FAA/NASA0 Work/Planning Group meeting in Columbus, Ohio. The trip to Ohio sparked interest in a navigation system called LORAN- C. The FAA and the National association of state aviation Officials were involved in an Early Implementation Program (EIP). The purpose of the program was to determine the feasibility of using LORAW-C receivers for guidance to runway ends as well as cross country. As a result of continued interest in LORAN-C and its potential two decisions were made, by Western Wichigan University and the FAA/NASA0 Planning/Work Group. Western Wichigan University decided to equip their aircraft with LORAti-C receivers. The FM/NASA0 Planning/Work Group authorized the development of two LORAN-C approaches into Kalamaxoo/Battlt Creek Airport.
