Progress and Status of RTCA MOPS for GPS

Lawrence F. Chesto

Abstract: The past work of the Radio Technical Commission for Aeronautics (RTCA) Special Committee 159 (SC-159) in the development of Minimum Aviation System Performance Standards (MASPS) for Global Positioning System (GPS) is reviewed briefly. The current SC-159 status on the development of Minimum Operational Performance Standards (MOPS) for supplemental navigation using GPS is discussed in detail including integrity requirements. This MOPS is now in the final stage of RTCA approval and should be published late in 1991. The projected work program for sole means navigation using the GPS augmented with other systems including the U.S.S.R. Global Orbiting Navigation Satellite System (GLONASS) is summarized.
