Abstract: | Following the handheld software driven GPS receiver presented at GPSSO,(ref l), development has continued to create a version suitable for car use. To achieve this considerable hardware, software, radio and antenna development has been done to reduce the size, component cost, and assembly cost of the unit. A two transputer version has been designed that can meet survey requirements, using one T400 transputer, with no external memory, as a correlation engine supporting the main T800 CPU. In addition, a version that takes acquisition time benefits of the software approach, but uses hardware correlators integrated onto the transputer chip to track the satellites has been prototyped, and the tracking results are shown. Initial research into map displays suitable for car use has been demonstrated using a laptop PC. |
