Joseph W. Spalding, Scott L. Krammes, and David J. Pietraszewski

Abstract: Under its research and development program, the United States Coast Guard (USCG) has integrated the findings of a number of the DGPS research efforts into a prototype DGPS Service. Following several successful months of test DGPS broadcasts during the S ring and Summer of 1989, the pilot broadcasts o P this service began from the Montauk Point, New York, radiobeacon at noon on 15August 1990. At that time the Montauk Point radiobeacon discontinued sequenced broadcasts on 286 kI-Iz. and began continuous broadcast of MSK modulated DGPS corrections on 293 kHz. This report describes the general structure of this prototype DGPS Service, its eographical coverage, the contents of the broa casts, f and statistical analysis of performance observed over one year of operation.
