GPS Availability and Reliability for Aircraft Precision Approach

Paul N. Creamer, E. Michael Geyer and Joseph J. Pisano

Abstract: The concept of satellite-based precision approach, us- ing the Department of Defense (DOD) Global Positioning System (GPS) with some enhancements, is attractive to many precision approach users. The work reported herein is intended to provide insights into the types of enhancements (if any) to the planned GPS constellation which are required to provide levels of availability aud reliability suitable for a general-use precision approach system.
