Closed Form Solution for Geodetic Coordinates Transformation

Abstract: The purpose of this article is to provide a closed form solution for the problem of geodetic coordinate transfonna- tion, by treating it as a minimization problem subject to cer- tain boundary constraint. The exact solution is valid regard- less of the size of datum shift. NOTATION f4 = geodetic latitude 8 = geodetic longitude h = geodetic altitude a = semi major axis of an ellipsoid b = semi minor axis of an ellipsoid (XJJ) = rectangular coordinates W.Y,Z) = rectangular coordinates for point Q w,v,w = rectangular coordinates for point P N = east west radius of curvature v = Lagrange multiplier e = first eccentricity
