Abstract: | This article describes in-flight tests and evaluation at the French Flight Test Center (CEV) of differential GPS system for precise range application. The system uses GPS pseudoranges and carrier phases from “all-in- view” CIA code GPS ground and aircraft receivers and implements the STRADINA software. Kalman filtering techniques are extensively used in processing pseudo- ranges and carrier-phases, in the elaboration of the differential GPS correction and in the tracking filter. Several flight tests were conducted, on a Caravelle, at Bretigny and Cazaux flight test centers. Up to 2 g flights and up to 575 kilometers distance from the ground reference station were tested. The rms performance demonstrated, with GDOP smaller than 3.5, is about 1.3 meter on the horizontal axes and 1.5 meter on the vertical axis for distances up to 100 Km. For 550 Km the rms performance demonstrated is 4.5 m in latitude, 1.5 m in longitude and 6.5 m in altitude. The STRADINA software runs on the Flight Test Center’s SUN workstation. It runs also on PC compatible computers. Following these DGPS tracking flight tests, INS / DGPS tracking, using a ULISS inertial navigation system with an embedded GPS receiver, will be flight tested soon on a MIRAGE Ill for high dynamic applications. |
