Integrated GPS and GIS Database Processing

Stephen Turner, Clive de la Fuente

Abstract: G.P.S. has the potential to be a major element in the growth of G.I.S. Much will depend on the level of integration and the ability to combine positional and relational data. User interface and the smooth seamless flow of data to the Host Systems will also be vital. Navstar Limited and Optimal Solutions Limited have combined their individual Company talents to produce an innovative solution to the requirements posed by G.I.S. users. M.I.D.A.S. is an integrated G.P.S. receiver, hand held MS-DOS Computer and data acquisition software package. A Project Management System complete with differential post processing completes the system. Output of graphical and database information directly to the Host system is a standard feature of the system. User definable feature libraries and data dictionaries make the applications, for this device, unlimited. The Project Management Software allows extensive data editing, screen plotting, satellite forecasting, project and job management, including merging data files and output of survey information to a variety of C.A.D. packages.
