An Integrated Multichannel GPS/GLONASS Receiver

Stuart Riley

Abstract: Use of both GLONASS and GPS has been proposed by the International Civil Aviation Organisation as a solution to future global navigation needs. This paper describes a GPSlGLONASS receiver capable of rneamrbg the C/A code and carrier phase observables of both systems at Ll together with the GLONASS P-code observables on Ll and L2. This allows the receiver to be used for a variety of applications including time-transfer, ionospheric measurements using GLONASS and positioning with a RAIM capability. The Digital Signal Processing within the receiver uses a combination of ASICs and programmable gate arrays in order to reduce the physical size. The modular nature of the channel design and the low component count enables up to sixteen GPS/GLONASS channels to be realized with ease. A single TMS32OC30 digital signal processor implements the tracking algorithms for all of the channels. Navigation, timing and data processing are effected on a host 386-PC. Code and Carrier phase measure merits of both systems C/A code are included. The first timing measurements obtained, using the GLONASS P-code, between UTC(LDS) and GLONASS system time are described, together with technical details of the receiver design and the measure merit technique.
