A Map Based GPS System for Vehicle Use

Philip G. Mattos

Abstract: GPS engines are now available to the oem at around 400 dollars. This is both too high for the car manufacturer, and too low to entice new players into the marine market. integrating the application work onto the G PS processor reduces costs by a very large margin, saving processor, ROMs, RAM and interfacing. Novel map handling techniques, and low cost LCD displays, mean that the entire map-display and GPS sensor and execute on the same CPU.
