A Review of the Interference Resistance of SPS GPS Receivers for Aviation

John I.R. Owen

Abstract: Demonstrations of GPS based approach and landing systems have caused many potential users of Microwave Landing System to question whether it is appropriate to install such a costly system. Investigations of the resistance to electromagnetic interference and noise of typical Standard Positioning Service (SPS) GPS receivers demonstrated that they are extremely susceptible to inband noise. Consequently their use for applications requiring high integrity must be questionable.
