Abstract: | This paper describes the development effort and sys- tem concept of the integration of the DGPS message over the existing X-band range/range Trisponder sys- tem. As increasingly more civilian applications re- quire precise positioning, the accuracy of stand alone GPS is inadequate, especially when Selective Availability (SA) is on. DGPS is the preferred means to achieve better accuracy. However, it is not always feasible to have enough satellite coverage in the work area, due to the incomplete NavStar satellite constel- lation or environmental constraints (trees, mountains, etc.). In order to improve both positional accuracy and operational flexibility, the integration of DGPS message on existing X-band ranging system offers a favorable solution. The fundamental ranging opera- tion combined with transferring DGPS messages provides a system solution for precise positioning re- quirements. With Del Norte’s newly developed decentralized Kalman filter, the observables from the two independent position sensors are fused to generate a further improved precise position. |
