Abstract: | The paper outlines the experiences gained from an extensive programme of GPS works performed in Poland by the Institute of Geodesy and Geodetic Astronomy of the Warsaw University of Technology. About 60 GPS projects were performed in the last three years using Trimble geodetic receivers. These projects concerned establishment or densification of geodetic control networks, establishment of geodetic frames for aerotriangulation, and establishment of precise elongated traverses for highway projects by quick kinematic GPS technologies. The paper also describes a dynamical network (GPS+aero- triangulation+gravimetry) that is established on the industrial area of intensive coal mine exploitation. Special original quick procedures of network establishment have been applied for this area where displacements of the surface points suffering from intensive mining are as large as about 20 centimetres per month. The paper also discusses GPS surveys and their use in a large geodynamical project consisting of establishing Satellite-Geodynamic Traverses (SAGET) in Central and Southern Poland. SAGET traverses link points located on three great geotectonic units of various ages that meet on the territory of Poland. GPS measurements were used for determination of geoidal heights. Comparisons with other classical (gravimetric and astrogeodetic) methods indicate very good agreement. Also, comparisons of GPS results with classical triangulation have been made. Some original practical works on GPS levelling have also been carried out. The EXTENDED SAGET Project is briefly described. Twenty-three stations from 13 European countries participated in the GPS EXTENDED SAGET’92 campaign, creating an excellent geodynamical networks for studies on the Teisseyre-Tomquist contact zone in Central Europe. Experiences with and performance of the Trimble 4000 series receivers are discussed. The paper remarks on the achievable accuracy of GPS surveys carried out by single- and dual-frequency receivers. |
