Stewart P. Teasley and Steven R. Croyle

Abstract: The NavCore V GPS receiver engine has been in produc- tion since 1992 and has had wide acceptance in the commercial marketplace. This paper describes the fea- tures and capabilities of the next generation NavCore product. Building on the established baseline of the current NavCore V receiver, the new product adds signifi- cant performance enhancements beyond current capabili- ties. this paper discusses both the hardware and software features that have been incorporated into this new product. Performance improvements that can be expected in end products designed with the new product are presented as are features that take advantage of the operational GPS constellation. This paper presents a standardized test methodology that is applicable to a wide range of GPS receivers including the NavCore. As many new GPS products are introduced in the marketplace, this test sequence provides a means of comparing receivers on an objective set of performance evaluation criteria. This methodology provides the end user with a superior tool set to select the optimal receiver for a particular application.
