Television Interference to GPS

A. Dale Hutchinson, Jay Weitzen

Abstract: This paper describes a measurement effort to demonstrate that harmonics from high power television transmitters, which are fully compliant with F.C.C. regulations, can interfere with commercial C/A-code GPS receivers. Significant interference out to a radius of 10 miles from selected transmitters was observed. An outage region encompassing up to several hundred square miles centered around a transmitter is possible.
