Abstract: | The Control Display Navigation Unit (CDNU) is an Intel 80386 based processor, keyboard, and alphanumeric display system that controls the GPS receiver (3A or MAGR) and interfaces with the Digital Data Set (DDS) over a MIL-STD-1553B interface. In addition the unit performs all Navy specific navigation functions in conformance with the Minimum Avionics Requirements (MAR). The CDNU is being utilized in numerous Navy, Coast Guard and Marine Corps applications. Although some platforms are integrating the CDNU as delivered from the manufacturer, most are adding CDNU software modules to control various devices aboard the platform. Many of the modules are being funded by SPAWAR PMW-167 in conjunction with integrating GPS into the aircraft. The modules are generic by design so that other platforms can incorporate them with minimal integration expense or risk. The NRaD team developed the UH-1N CDNU modules to replace the functions currently being performed by the Cockpit Control System (CCS). They developed Software modules to control the ARC-210 V/UHF radio and the ARN-153 TACAN and to interface with other non 1553B boxes (IFF, Doppler Radar) via the Interface Control Unit (ICU). The Functional Qualification Testing (FQT) started 28 February, platform testing commenced 29 April and the Technical Evaluation is scheduled to start at Naval Air Warfare Center Patuxent River MD in June 1994. This paper will address the CDNU module development philosophy, the UH-IN module development in particular and the status of the UH- 1N software testing. |
