Abstract: | Navigation constellations such as GPS are optimized using an iterative process based upon the possible resistance to satellite failure from a navigation accuracy point of view. We propose to choose a figure of merit based upon the constellation RAIM capacity and we show on the GPS example that using this figure of merit and genetic algorithm optimization allows to obtain the same results as with the usual process, but faster. In particularsix possible optimal locations are proposed for a GPS constellation extended to 30 satellites. |
