Abstract: | Under a US Air Force project, a team of the Russian experts has written a detailed description of the Global Navigation Satellite System (GLONASS) and GLONASS program. The project was administered by ANSER, Arlington, Virginia. The objective of the project was to obtain a comprehensive stand-alone reference on GLONASS for use by DOD, DOT and US industry. The effort has resulted in a 30 page English-language reference on GLONASS, which is currently in the publication process. The book provides details on the program history, the system (space, ground and user segment), and the future of the program. The project is significant, because it demonstrates that the Russian MOD and Russian Space Agency have a long term, detailed plan for the future of GLONASS. The project is also significant because it should assist the US-Russia GPS- GLONASS Agreement and development of combined receiver standards. |
