Testing the Subsystems of the U.S. Coast Guard DGPS Service

Steve Nagengast, Nicholas Russo, Mark Vassalotti, Vincent DiCristofaro

Abstract: The United States Coast Guard (USCG) is implementing Differential Global Positioning System (DGPS) services. In order to provide reliable service, the DGPS subsystems must be tested to verify proper performance. These subsystems include Reference Stations, Integrity Monitors, Control Stations, and Broadcast Sites. Test methods and software tools have been developed to verify compliance with equipment specifications, international standards, and overall system performance requirements. This process has required the use of satellite signal simulation and field tests to evaluate critical GPS receiver performance characteristics.
