Initial Report of Activities of the GPS Test Standardization Working Group

Stewart Teasley, Darwin Abby

Abstract: During the ION GPS-93 meeting, the Satellite Division of the ION approved the formation of a Commercial GPS Test Standardi~;ltion Working Group. The designated purpose of the group was to develop GPS performance test standards for commercial receivers in marine, land vehicular, and handheld applications. Once test standards are developed, the group will address the development of test procedures to establish compliance with the test standards. This paper presents a summary report on the early activities of the working group including the efforts to involve a representative cross section of the navigation community. Specific plans to develop the standards are addressed as are a number of the technical issues facing the committee. Cooperative activities involving other committees and groups are presented. The projected impact of the working group’s activities on the GPS community are discussed.
