Abstract: | A method of bounding the fault-free GPS pseudorange correction errors is described, including the role of a position domain monitor (PDM). The fault-free error models are based on the Normal Inverse Gaussian (NIG) distribution. The NIG is used to generate models for three cases that represent nominal fault-free errors, their significant mismodeling, and their worstcase mismodeling. An integrity risk model is derived that includes the fault-free errors of the PDM and airborne receiver, as well as the correction errors, and takes into account the inflation factor. The PDM is found to be effective in ensuring that the fault-free integrity risk remains low if the pseudorange correction error distribution is mismodeled such that it has heavier tails than originally established. The PDM may also reduce any sigma-inflation factor increase used to protect against mismodeling. |
