Abstract: | The performance of an integrated GPS/inertial attitude determination system is investigated using a linear covari- ante analysis. The purpose of this investigation is to deter- mine the limiting error source of a GPS/inertial attitude determination system. This investigation is also intended to determine the level of attitude accuracy that may be achieved by a vehicle on orbit, and the effect on attitude accuracy of other factors, such as GPS attitude determina- tion method, gyroscope quality, and satellite selection scheme. A new figure of merit, Attitude Dilution of Preci- sion (ADOP), is defined for two possible GPS attitude determination methods, namely single difference and dou- ble difference interferometry. A satellite selection scheme is proposed using this figure of merit. |
