Abstract: | GMV Sistemas S.A. has developed a complete integrated system for Automatic Vehicle Location (AVL), fleet traffic management and public transport user information. The implementation of the system is based on the use of DGPS as primary localization system, advanced land mobile data communications and traffic management software engineering. Additionally the on-board equipment implements dead reckoning navigation to overcome urban canyons where GPS signal may be shadowed. This paper describes in detail how the GPS signal can be used to improve the quality offered to the users of a quotidian service like the bus public transportation, using the major capabilities provided by the GPS system: localization and precise time reference availability. |
