Civil GPS/WAAS Signal Design and Interference Environment at 1176.45 MHz: Results of RTCA SC159 WG1 Activities

Christopher Hegarty, A.J. Van Dierendonck

Abstract: This paper describes the contributions of RTCA Special Committee 159 Working Group 1 (3 rd Civil GPS Frequency) towards the implementation of a third civil GPS signal at 1176.45 MHz (L5). These contributions came primarily in two areas. First, Working Group 1 (WG1) was relied upon by the Interagency GPS Executive Board (IGEB) to develop consensus on the design of the third civil signal. Second, WG1 developed a set of receiver assumptions, and participated in the development of a methodology, for analyzing the compatibility of the third civil signal with existing systems operating at or near L5.
