Abstract: | This paper describes a software package, GRINGO, written at the University of Nottingham, which extracts and records raw L1 pseudorange data from Garmin 12- channel hand-held GPS receivers. The output from GRINGO is a properly formatted RINEX file, containing the decoded data. With the appropriate processing software, a RINEX pseudorange data file can be combined with data files from other receivers, to produce post-processed Differential GPS vectors between the receivers. In combination with a simple data logger, such as a Psion PDA, the GRINGO software turns these consumer-oriented receivers into low-cost raw-data devices, suitable for a variety of DGPS applications. The paper includes the results of some trials which demonstrate the accuracy achievable with these receivers. |
