Abstract: | The GPUWAAS signal in space must meet availability requirements, not only for initially good satellite-user geometry, but also for subsequent continuity -- probability that a navigation related function will not be interrupted during a flight operation. This paper develops a method for analyzing unavailability (1 - availability) of the GPUWAAS space segment, including continuity requirements. Restrictions are identified for the minimum number of satellites that may be used in the position solution to meet continuity requirements. These restrictions are then used in unavailability analyses of particular configurations of geostationary satellites proposed for the WAAS space segment. Sensitivity of the results to variations in WAAS continuity requirements for some operations is also determined. |
