Track Irregularity Measurement using an INS - GPS

Thorsten Luck, Erwin Lohnert, Bernd Eissfeller

Abstract: The knowledge of geometric trac irregular- ities which are dangerous to dynamic safety (DYSAF)of railways becomes evident with ris- ing use of tilting trains like the German ICE3 or ICT,as irregularities may lead to train derail- ment.To identify trac defects,a new measur- ing technique using di ?erential GPS and an in- ertial navigation system to determine the posi- tion of the trac measuring system is presented. The paper discusses the system design and in- tegration technique and presents experimental results from the laboratory test vehicle. Also critical aspects of high-precision DGPS/INS in- tegration are outlined.
