Abstract: | WAAS will have a vertical accuracy of 7.6 meters, 95%, which is inadequate for CAT 1. The new algorithm improves WAAS accuracy to 1.5 meters, 95%, with 5 meters vertical alert limit, which is adequate for CAT 11. It improves LAAS Type 1 accuracy from CAT I with 99.9% availability to CAT III with 99.999% availability. If the signal in space is interrupted, it permits coasting for 5 minutes for CAT 1, 2 minutes for CAT H, and 1 minute for CAT III. The algorithm uses measurements from dissimilar equipment already on commercial airliners, and to eventually be on alI GA aircraft. R requires no additional ground facilities. |
