Abstract: | Multi-sensor data fusion involves the combination of information and data to achieve inferences, which are not feasible using single sensor data. Applications include a wide variety of tactical and strategic systems such as smart weapons and surveillance systems. This paper provides an introduction to data fusion and describes current limitations and challenges. The formal Joint Directors of Laboratories (JDL) data fusion process model is introduced, along with emerging standard terminology. The impact of evolving navigation technology on data fusion is discussed, along with comments on anticipated future technological advances. |
