Abstract: | Numerous applications can benefit from use of integrated Inertial Navigation System/Global Positioning System (INS/GPS) technology. For several years, the Boeing ES&MD business area has been developing a family of integrated INS/GPS products, called the Miniature Integrated GPS/INS Tactical System (MIGITS™), for off-the- shelf employment by various applications that require low cost and good performance. This paper describes the most recent, Precise (encrypted) [P(Y)] code MIGITS™ product: P-MIGITS™ II. First, the product architecture and overall design approach are presented. The P-MIGITS™ II design is then discussed in more detail, along with key performance parameters. Results from P-MIGITS™ II lab and mobility tests are also presented. P-MIGITS™ II was developed for military applications that place a strong premium on small size and low cost, and can employ cryptographic keys associated with selective availability/anti-spoofing (SA/AS). It employs the Boeing solid state Digital Quartz Inertial Measurement Unit (DQI) in conjunction with a Rockwell Collins 5-channel Miniature PLGR [Precision Lightweight GPS Receiver] Engine (MPE-1. 5) military GPS engine. These are housed in a common chassis. The product features small size (3.53” x 4.0” 4.74”; 67 cubic inches), low weight (3.5 pounds), and low power (18 w). Several operating modes are available including ground align, in-air align, land navigation, air navigation, and INS-only (when GPS is lost). P-MIGITS™ II represents a low cost, military off the shelf/nondevelopmental item (MOTS/NDI) product that can be beneficially employed in a variety of military and selected non-military applications. It is believed to be the smallest and lowest cost military INS/GPS in its class. |
