Performance of the Inmarsat-3 Navigation Augmentation Payloads

George V. Kinal and Oleg Razumovsky

Abstract: Inmarsat’s Third Generation satellites carry a navigation payload which will be used for Satellite Based Augmen-tation Systems. Each payload was subjected to pre-flight (ground) and in-orbit tests (IOT) to ensure compliance with specifications. Data collected from these tests is useful not only for verification of the payload but to predict the ability of the overall system to provide a high quality user ranging and timing signal. The tests also showed the ability to compensate for ionospheric delay and for slow frequency translation errors. This paper reports on the test results and observations for the four such payloads deployed to date.
