Abstract: | The Capstone Requirements Document for Global Position, Velocity, and Timing Determination Capability will serve as the top-level system of systems user requirements document for military and civil position, velocity, and timing (PVT) programs. The Capstone Requirements Document (CRD) reflects ongoing efforts to incorporate the diverse requirements of military, civil, commercial and scientific users and their needs for future PVT systems. In light of the Presidential Guidance to discontinue use of Selective Availability on the Global Positioning System (GPS) by the year 2006, the CRD addresses the military’s requirements to prevent the hostile use of GPS and its augmentations and to ensure the US retains its military advantage without unduly disrupting or degrading civilian uses. The CRD will be used as the basis for development of military and civil system-specific requirements documents for specific applications which, in turn, will be used for system architecture alternatives and system acquisition. |
