The NR - Navigation System Family: Features and Performance of the Fully Integrated Single Frequency, 24 Channel, C/A Code GPS/GLONASS Navigation Systems

Abstract:	GLONASS is becoming increasingly important in forming an inalienable element, together with GPS, in the Global Navigation Satellite System GNSS and in the European Navigation Overlay Service EGNOS. The combined use of GPS and GLON-ASS offers many advantages compared with GPS-or GLONASS-only use. This paper describes MAN Technologies AGs brand new NR” - Navigation Systems which represent the fust commercial available fully integrated GPS/GLONASS naviga-tion system family. The NR - Navigation System Family is based on a 24 parallel channel, single fre-quency, CIA code combined GPS/GLONASS re-ceiver. It is capable of receiving simultaneously signals from up to 12 GPS and 12 GLONASS sat-ellites, providing continuous code and carrier-phase measurements for each tracked satellite. The inclu-sion of the GLONASS signals significantly in-creases the accuracy of positioning, velocity and acceleration as well as availability and integrity. The NR - Navigation System Family also includes a reference station to generate differential correc-tions for both GPS and GLONASS as defined within the new RTCM Version 2.2. The features and the performance of the various systems of the NR - Navigation System Family, including mixed processing of GPS and GLONASS C/A code meas-urements as well as GPS and GLONASS carrier-phase measurements, differential applications and real-time kinematics applications, are presented.
