Abstract: | Central European Initiative (CEI) is an organisation established in 1989 with the aim to encourage an international cooperation of European countries in various areas of science, culture and economy. At present there are fifteen member countries of this organisation: Albania, Austria, Belarus, Bosnia & Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Hungary, Italy, Macedonia, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia and Ukraine. A very broad and extensive cooperation in geodesy and geodynamics is realised within the CEI Working Group on Science and Technology, Earth Science Committee, Section C “Geodesy”. The cooperation focuses mainly on three themes: (a) interconnection of geodetic control networks, (b) problems of GIS/LIS, and (c) geodynamic investigations. The GPS techniques are widely used for a). establishment of the unified geodetic control network in Central Europe related to ITRF/NATO reference system, b). establishment of the permanent GPS stations for IGS (International GPS Service for Geodynamics) and EUREF (European Reference Frame) services, c). geodynamic investigations in the region of Central Europe. Present stage of the EUREF network in Central Europe and the programme of establishment of permanent GPS stations is outlined in the paper. The extensive international cooperation in the frame of CERGOP (Central Europe Regional Geodynamics Project) is presented. Three GPS CERGOP campaigns were organised in 1994, 1995 and 1996 that result in establishment of 31 geodynamic stations of the Central European GPS Reference Network (CEGRN) covering the territory of 11 European countries. New cooperation links between CEI and IAG (International Association of Geodesy IUGG) as well as between CEI and EGS (European Geophysical Society) are briefly discussed. |
