Abstract: Det.mking of a ship’s bearing is important in a marine navigation. There are three navigation instruments such as a magneticcompass, a gyrocompass and an electronic navigation system for providii the ship’s bearing. In special, GPS system can *give the bearing more precisely then other past ekktronic systems. However, the utility of a GPS receiver for determinii the ship’s bearing is limited to ship’s manuvering with straight paths and high speeds. Therfore, the ability as a bearing instrument is still unpromised tx3 tn sailers. The purpose of the study is to improve the abiity to determine the ship’s bearing by GPS. Two GPS receivers are used to determine the ship’s bearing in real time. The plane sailing is applied to compute the bearing based on the measured two points. In this paper, we investigated the bearing accuracy associated with the error pattern of receivers. Then we examined the sensitivity of the system through the real manuvering of the ship on the sea.
