Abstract: | This report sums up the essential research data in the fields of integrated position determination and identification for maritime applications. Research activities in integrated shipping navigation were established in April 1995 in a project for the German Space Agency (DARA). An experimental system, SeaNav, was designed by Aerodata for integrated navigation using an improved DGPS/AHRS (Attitude and Heading Reference System). Since system inputs like rudder angle, propeller speed and pitch, engine fuel admission, gyro course, dimensioned rates of rotation, speed and values of acceleration are also of great importance for the identification of ship movement, they can be captured only by an integrated system Information on roll, pitch, and yaw are also available. All this data will be used in the navigation process after online examination, filtering, and validation. System integration is done by a Kalman Filter. The equipment suite for the navigation process consists of an electronic chart system (which already offers access to several ECDIS functions), a transponder, and a NavTex receiver. Additionally, an INMARSAT station will be integrated in the navigation process. A DGLONASS-system is also in preparation. In the first phase, the system was mainly used to collect measurements on new built ships in the Baltic Sea. Reference data for positioning from carrier phase systems are available in post-processing. The second phase, based on the tracking parameters, identified the dynamic coefficients of the ship and describe the ships movement using mathematical models. On the basis of these coefficients, an identitiable, complex model of ship dynamics can be determined, With this knowledge it is possible to design an improved track regulator. |
