Krzysztof K. Vorbrich, Marek Dziewicki, Leonard Gajewski,Tedeusz Stupak

Abstract: The paper describes some theoretical and experimental work which has been completed in Poland in the field of DGPS within the framework of the Polish national and international activities. In the main technical section of the paper, details are given of the Polish DGPS activities in progress. The Maritime Institute in Gdansk has successfully used DGPS for oceanographic and hydrographic research since 1994. The responsibility to upgrade the Polish Maritime Radio Beacons with the DGPS has been vested on the Maritime Office in Gdynia, Two Public Domain DGPS/MRB stations have been set-up, namely at Rozewie and Dziwnow. The land and waterborne stand-alone DGPS experiments were carried out in Poland by the Space Research Centre of the Polish Academy of Sciences by means of a dedicated van and a research ship and research motor- boat operated by the Maritime Institute. The paper ends by giving a summary of the conclusions reached so far in conjunction with the DGPS experiments and by listing the major policy questions which need to be addressed in connection with the development of the DGPS technique in Poland.
