SAASM Upgrades to Missiles and Bombs Drives Need to Upgrade Aircraft

William Caldwell

Abstract: Recent global events are depleting the supply of non-SAASM GPS guided missiles and bombs. Further, a limited supply of PPS-SMs is limiting the capability to build non-SAASM based GPS missiles and bombs. The data required to initialize a SAASM based GPS munition is not available on the Receiver 3As and MAGRs that are integrated in today’s aircraft. However, this restriction can be removed by changing either the SAASM or the Receiver 3As, and MAGRs. This paper identifies the data incompatibilities and proposes solutions to this incompatibility.
