Abstract: | The nationwide GPS network of Korea Astronomy Observatory (KAO) is one of active reference networks in Korea and it has 9 Continuously Operating Reference Stations including an IGS site, DAEJ. Because interstation spacing ranges from 50 to less than 200 km and the coverage area include the whole country, this network is suitable for not only static carrier-phase processing but also local area differential GPS. The communication infrastructures for real time data link, such as CDMA mobile network and FM DARC system, are well established in Korea and covered the whole country. From 1999, Korea Astronomy Observatory and Munhwa Broadcasting Co. provide the DGPS data for the real-time applications via FM DARC. Even though the real-time kinematic GPS positioning can provide cm-level accuracy, the use of a single fixed reference station for RTK has several limitations such as restricted inter-receiver distance. In past few years, the new concepts based on the virtual GPS reference station have been proposed to overcome these limitations. The Multi-Reference GPS System, MultiRef, developed at the University of Calgary is one of these techniques and it has the capability of generating regional code and carrier phase corrections using all available reference stations within the GPS network. Because of remarkable advantage of this system such as increased coverage under which successful OTF ambiguity resolution is possible, this novel approach has been implemented at several countries like as Canada, Brazil, Norway and Japan. In order to extend to the RTK service from existing infrastructures, the Multi-Reference GPS System was installed in the control center of GPS reference network of KAO. This paper describes the nationwide RTK service system of KAO using the Multi-Reference GPS system in Korea. The service concept, including data link methods such as FM DARC and mobile phone, and the preliminary results in the testing area are addressed. |
