Global Positioning System / Wide Area Augmentation System Sikorsky (N38) Helicopter Final Approach Error Analysis

David P. Stapleton

Abstract: Sikorsky (N38) helicopter precision approach test data is evaluated for flights navigated by means of the Global Positioning System/Wide Area Augmentation System (GPS/WAAS). Tests for the study were conducted at the Federal Aviation Administration Technical Center (FAATC), in Atlantic City, New Jersey using glidepath angles of 4.5, and 6.0 degrees. This paper summarizes the findings in terms of Navigation System Error, and Total System Error statistics; and briefly considers the associated correlations of error components.
