Abstract: | In this paper, a Dead Reckoning (DR) system is proposed to improve the navigation accuracy during GPS outage for a GPS/INS navigation system. We define the DR system as comprising air data system and magnetic compass. If wind velocity is compensated properly, the DR system can provide measurement of velocity of vehicle. The proposed approach is to use GPS, when it is available, and INS to provide navigation information and calibrate the wind velocity for the DR system. When GPS is unavailable, a complementary Kalman filter is used to combine INS and DR system, and generate an optimal estimation of position and velocities. Simulations and actual land trials were carried out, which confirmed the efficacy of the proposed approach. |
