| Abstract: | Inter-Satellite Link (ISL) is expected to enhance the Precise Orbit Determination (POD) performance of LEO satellites by facilitating inter-satellite data exchange, Inter-Satellite Ranging (ISR), and time synchronization. In particular, the implementation of Networked ISL (NET-ISL), which extends ISLs into a network architecture, can optimize the POD performance of the entire satellite constellation. This study presents preliminary research results for effective ISL design in multi-layered Positioning, Navigation, and Timing (PNT) systems through simulator-based performance analysis under ideal environmental conditions. To rigorously analyze ISL-based PNT systems, ISLs are categorized based on their functions and directionality, and the mathematical background corresponding to each classified link type is described. Finally, performance is evaluated through a comparative analysis between multi-layered PNT systems and single-layer LEO PNT systems. |
