| Abstract: | EGNOS is the European SBAS in charge of providing GNSS users with navigation corrections and associated integrity bounds, broadcast from geostationary (GEO) satellites. Airbus, together with its key partners, is currently developing the second generation of EGNOS (EGNOS V3) for the European Space Agency (ESA) and for the European Union Agency for the Space Programme (EUSPA) [RD.1]. This new generation of the European SBAS will ensure the continuity of the current services (single frequency) and will introduce the new dual-frequency (L1/L5, E1/E5a) and multi-constellation (GPS, Galileo) services. Thus, EGNOS V3 will augment both GPS and Galileo, in order to provide Safety-of-Life satellite-positioning services to the most safety-critical applications such as aircraft navigation, for both the legacy SF users on SBAS L1 and for the future DF users on SBAS L5. Following the recent achievements in EGNOS V3 development, Airbus has set up an EGNOS DFMC algorithms Demonstrator (EDD) based on the re-use of EGNOS V3 asset prototypes, adapted for the demonstration platform. ESA and Airbus Defence and Space have used the EDD to conduct together an early demonstration of SBAS DFMC Signal-in-Space through Eutelsat HOTBIRD 13G (13° East) satellite hosting the EGNOS GEO-4 payload. The EDD platform has also been used to generate DFMC datasets gathering DFMC SBAS message and associated GPS and Galileo observables. Built on the EGNOS V3 testbed framework, the EDD is processing signals collected in real-time from public GNSS receiver stations spread over Europe and generates SBAS DFMC augmentation messages in compliance with the ICAO SARPs Annex 10 Volume I [RD-2] and the SBAS receiver MOPS [RD-3]. This paper will be structured in four parts: 1) Demonstrator concept and architecture, 2) Ground stations selection and performance analysis, 3) Demonstration of SBAS DFMC performance results, 4) Conclusions and way forward. |
