EGNOS CPFPS Status Prior To The Final Implementation Stage

Abstract: Within EGNOS, the Central Processing Facility Processing Set (CPFPS) is responsible of generating the WAD corrections and integrity broadcast to the EGNOS users. Therefore, the CPFPS is the main contributor to EGNOS performances. GMV is, within the EGNOS industrial consortium, the company responsible of the CPFPS development. Currently, the CPFPS is approaching the Critical Design Review. After this key point, the final stages of the CPF PS implementation will take place, but the engineering activities backing off the design decisions at Set level have been completed and have demonstrated the level of maturity necessary to conduct the project to a successful completion. This maturity level has been achieved through careful design activities, complemented by extensive experimentation activities at both algorithm and Set level, in order to allow for a proper tuning of parameters against nominal and also non-nominal conditions of operation. This paper is intended to present the key results obtained during this experimental work, which substantiate the maturity of the design and an accurate evaluation of the achievable performances. In the first place, the design of the CPF Processing Set within the EGNOS framework will be presented. The main design elements contributing to key performance areas (integrity and continuity of service) will be outlined. In the second part, the most important experimental results at both algorithmic and Set level will be presented, along with the current performance results obtained from these analyses. Finally, the paper will present the main conclusions that are derived from the combination of the design work, experimental results and engineering analysis (reliability analysis, safety conclusions, algorithm verification, etc.). These conclusions will be the key decision element to determine if the current design is appropriate for the final implementation steps leading to the delivery of EGNOS to the Civil Aviation authorities for the start of the operational validation by the end of 2003.
