GNSS Multipath Detection Using Multi-Band Collaborative Code Delay Tracking Loops

Abstract: Multi-band collaboration (MBC) is a growing trend for code delay tracking in urban environments, in which signal blockage and multipath are major challenges that prevent robust and precise GNSS signal tracking. MBC exploits common variables associated with signals transmitted from the same satellite, such as propagation path, to mitigate multipath interference. To combine multiband signals in the code delay tracking loop, the code delay misalignment among signals requires either compensation using an ionosphere model or simultaneous tracking of all code delays. The former can only obtain the pseudorange of one band, while the latter is usually entailed by a complex system model. This work proposes a new scheme for the MBC-based code delay tracking loop, which consists of one outer loop and multiple inner loops for each signal. The outer loop tracks the code delay of the reference signal, while the inner loops track each signal’s code delay misalignment from the reference signal and provide multipath detection based on the correlation values. The MBC-based code tracking performance will be compared with standalone tracking and verified in both Monte Carlo simulation and real data collected in urban environments.
