Client and Server Considerations when using the Network Time Protocol (NTP)

Steven Sommars

Abstract: A number of considerations come into play when the Network Time Protocol (NTP) operation is used robustly by time distributors (servers) and time recipients (clients). While delivering accurate time is paramount, determining server physical and logical locations is also important. Examples of how these factors can impact NTP operation are given from educational, research labs, government and other environments.
