GALILEO: Taking the Next Step

Luc Tytgat and Pascal Campagne

Abstract: GALILEO is Europe's contribution to the future generation of satellite navigation systems. Currently jointly managed and financed by the European Commission and the European Space Agency, GALILEO will benefit from the very latest technological advances. It will enable it to broadcast from 2006, high performance positioning and timing signals under international civil control, to meet the increasingly stringent demands of users. The Development phase is now launched and the Joint Undertaking is to be set-up with the Industry, providing a single management structure and preparing the financing and management of the next steps based on a Public Private Partnership.
