Abstract: In 2016, Google provides the GNSS data measurement interface on the Android N operating system for the first time [1]. This gives industry scholars more opportunities to explore development directions for the positioning accuracy of mobile devices. Real-time kinematic (RTK) and precise point positioning (PPP) data processing, which used to deeply rely on professional equipment, begin to have the possibility of real-time processing on mobile phones. In the conference of ION GNSS+2020, Google has released an open dataset collected from Android smartphones [2], which further lower the barrier for the GNSS community to focus on the high precision positioning algorithm. To a certain extent, we have a chance to avoid the inherent hardware problem and improve the positioning accuracy from the perspective of data processing methods. In the article, we will show our work from five aspects, including comparing differences between high cost receivers and smartphones such as their satellite tracking, signals at different frequencies, carrier-to-noise ratio of satellites and multipath effects, solving cycle slips problem, exploring strategies for various conditions, finding special solution in urban conditions and adding inertial navigation in GNSS positioning. We will also introduce our future work. The precision positioning of smartphones is definitely of great significance. However, it’s still immature compared with other high-cost receivers. The article provides more possibilities in exploring higher precision of smartphones positioning.
