Advances and Challenges of Multiband Satnav in Smartphones & Portable Devices

Frank van Diggelen

Abstract: Dual frequency satnav is becoming commonplace in most flagship smartphones in 2021. This presentation shows the major advances that we see for smartphones and other portable devices: * The narrow correlation response of L5 signals. * The combination of 3D Mapping Assistance with L5 signals * Supercorrelation (long coherent integration tightly integrated with velocity) * Other signals for radio navigation (including terrestrial and LEOs), complementing GNSS. We also cover the one big challenge: the difficulty of getting good C/No for L5 in small consumer devices.
